- Good afternoon, All. Like many investors and small business owners out there, we're watching with some trepidation to see what happens to CGT. Is it really going to go straight to 40%? What will the "ifs" and the "buts" be? What will be the definition of "business assets"?
- Rumour has it that after the budget we will only be able to tweet up to 100 characters. #budgetcuts #junebudgetcomment by jamestoon via twitter 6/22/2010 11:13:25 AM
- You and me too Ed ;-) I've been building my business for over 10 years now, so hopefully there will be some taper to encourage longer term investment!
- Welcome bloggers.
- Budget cuts should restore confidence in GBP pushing the rate up to 1.25 against € & above 1.50 against $ #junebudget
- @jamestoon I hear that's only for people earning more than 100,000 pounds a year ;-)
- This is the first time I've been seriously concerned about a budget - but cant believe that a Tory budget will seriously attack enterprise - will it?
- @freshnick Let's hope not but it's such a difficult line that the Chancellor has to tack - radical measures to tackle the deficit without being seen to undermine economic confidence. He's been tangled in a Gordian knot - or Gordonian actually! I don't envy him one bit.
- #junebudget: Sun apparently reporting that CGT will only go up to 28%
- 12.30 fixes on GBPUSD and GBPEUR are 1.4718 and 1.1995 and 10 year gilt yield sitting at 3.449% #junebudget
- Even raising CGT to 28% will have a negative effect on investment - and will be counterproductive in the sense that it won't raise much, if any, extra revenue.
- Chancellor Osborne gets up to speak. Here we go...
- The speech begins
- Fear about sovereign debt is the greatest risk to European recovery, Osborne says
- Lower market interest rates are already supporting our recovery, Osborne says
- Chancellor won't hide the public from the harsh truth
- Will be interesting to see how the OBR adjusts its forecasts to take into account the budget proposed. There has been much talk of short term pain, and the potential impact of reducing immigration on UK growth. Will this support or damage the chancellor?
- #junebudget Sterling already moving higher on bullish talk from Osborne 1.4738 and 1.2015, GBPUSD and GBPEUR. Gilt yield unchanged
- Good afternoon everyone. Osborne dismisses Labour's "golden rule" exposing that it was not followed
- Surplus countries should do more to support global demand, Osborne says
- Structural current deficit should be in balance by 2015 to 2016
- Surplus countries definitely need to support demand. Problem is that there aren't many of them. Most countries (particularly in Europe) are now trying to rein in spending and become surplus counties, so the problem is, who is left spending? Who soaks up the production of goods and services with their demand?
- Debt to fall as share of GDP by 2015 - 16
- On track to have debt under control prior to next election - getting pain now though - you can feel it coming
- Growth in the UK economy is expected to be 1.2 percent for 2010
