A Tripoli hospital has received the bodies of 17 civilians believed to have been executed in recent days by government forces in Muammar Gaddafi's compound in the capital, a British medical worker says.
Tripoli hospital receives 17 executed bodies -
@PeterT I agree with you about that people were a key factor in the decision to intervene by the western countries, their unbroken will to fight this regime, even if it should take lifes. They started the protests after they saw that it possible to bring an arabic dictator to fall like in egypt or tunisia. They saw their chance in this "arabic spring" and begun to act together after waiting decades for this chance. But the western countries joined in when they saw that gaddafi was seriously violating international law by assasinating people in a clearly amoral way that goes below a border of repression our civilized countries could not tolerate anymore in front of their own citizens, in a way they would not want their own citizens to act without being punished AND when they saw that a longterm civil war is uprising by those determined rebels which would destabilize oil production from lybia even more than a NATO airsupported shortterm civil war, where the chances for the rebels are high enough to bring gaddafi to fall. The revolution probably would not have failed, it would have taken far to long. Of course gaddafi gave the western countries enough arguments why we now can sell it as a service to worldwide democracy itself and as a help to lybian people, so im as well proud that we chose this way, which now seems to be the right one as lybians hopefully! soon will have a working democratic system. PS: I grew up in a communism, so i know how it is like to not being able to discuss your system of goverment without going at least to prison for 5 to 15 years and none of your relatives gets a better job than working in a coal mine. Of course the people have to first build a huge majority of active citizens to break this to receive democracy as they then deserve it. I congratulate the lybians to this effort and hope they will not get repressed by any "rebel leaders" again.

Libyan commandos fighting Muammar Gaddafi came close to capturing the toppled leader on Wednesday when they raided a private home in Tripoli where he appeared to have been hiding, Paris Match magazine says.
Gaddafi nearly captured on Wednesday - report -
I am sorry but the wests intentions are clearly obvious, if the west is so pro human rights and free will and against crimes against humanity, then why they dont go to Syria where thousands are getting slaughtered. Which if I may say so is far worse then Libya. Wait a second I know the reason no Oil in that country.

For 35 years Milood Amroni, Libya's top comedian, used humour as a weapon to poke fun, ever so carefully, at the government of Muammar Gaddafi.
Libyan comedian says harder to joke without Gaddafi -
Every now and then I read a comment about the west helping us because of the oil, SO WHAT? did we shatter your dream world and brought you to reality?
The thing is, the oil has been our curse and bless, right now and only now it started to look like a bless, with Ghadaffi, it was a curse, he spent it left and right and nothing IN Libya, now, even if the west starts getting more percentage of oil, the rest is will be ours, in numbers that is a jump from 7% of the oil to the Libyan people to 50, 60, 70, 80%.. Worth it for us, and I hope it makes the west happy, and with regards to Syria, My heart is with the people, but Gadaffi did not have Iran and the delicate situation in close Iraq an Lebanon as card to play with.. too bad for him and too bad for our Syrian brethren. -

Italy has begun unfreezing 350 million euros of Libyan funds in Italian banks as a first step in a broader effort to unblock all of the country's assets in this country, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi says.
Italian oil and gas group Eni, the biggest foreign oil operator in Libya, is expected to sign a deal to supply a "large" amount of gas and petrol without payment to serve the immediate needs of Libyans, he said.
The deal will be probably be signed on Monday in Benghazi, Berlusconi added.
