It was the Medicaid expansion - not the individual mandate - that would have provided coverage to the most uninsured Americans because it would have added coverage for so many Americans who are less well-off. Interesting to see what final call is on how the ruling addresses them. -

So the Commerce Clause turns out to be irrelvant. This then avoids the expansion of Commerce Clause power--at least in the jurisprudential sense--that the conservatives said the feared. The Broccoli Mandate. I don't see a tax being imposed on people who refuse to buy broccoli -

Club for Growth: “Today’s Supreme Court decision is unfortunate. ObamaCare is a debacle and an unwarranted intrusion of the federal government into the marketplace,” said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. “Republicans in Congress should continue to try to repeal ObamaCare in its entirety and replace it with market-based health care policies that will improve quality and bring down costs.”

Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
“You can hear the sigh of relief at the White House,” said Brown. “The decision will certainly be a plus for President Barack Obama’s re-election because it allows the president’s signature achievement to stand. Since politics is the ultimate zero-sum game, what’s good for Obama is bad for Gov. Mitt Romney.
“The decision, however, will allow Romney to continuing campaigning against the law and promising to repeal it.” -
Amy Kremer, Chairman of the Tea Party Express, said, “The Supreme Court ruled to uphold this unprecedented intrusion of the federal government into our personal health care decisions. The American people still reject this legislation as bad policy and unwanted government interference with their lives. We will continue to work to defeat Obamacare at the ballot box in November by electing fiscal conservatives ready and willing to represent the will of the people by fully repealing every piece of this legislation.
“While we are disappointed in the majority opinion of the Court, we cannot ignore how President Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress squandered over a year of his Administration on an unpopular law rather than address the important economic issues that continue to plague our financial well-being. -
