Looks like the power’s gone out at the Huffington Post DC bureau, sending the team scrambling.
From Sam Stein, (Political Editor, WH Correspondent, @samsteinhp): “power at DC bureau is down, office is working outside local coffee shops. massive construction/drilling going on in the street.”
From Ethan Klapper (Social Media Editor for Huffington Post Politics, @ethanklapper): “Your @huffpostpol team seeking refuge after D.C. bureau lost post. @ Starbucks instagr.am/p/MTSq4mnXK9/ -
To me the following is highly significant. The court upholds only one part of the Arizona law but says the other parts are preempted. Conservative justices Scalia, Thomas and Alito feel moved to dissent on the parts that are preempted--meaning that has in some way offended their constitutional sensibility. -

-
Romney's statement:
“Today's decision underscores the need for a President who will lead on this critical issue and work in a bipartisan fashion to pursue a national immigration strategy. President Obama has failed to provide any leadership on immigration. This represents yet another broken promise by this President. I believe that each state has the duty--and the right--to secure our borders and preserve the rule of law, particularly when the federal government has failed to meet its responsibilities. As Candidate Obama, he promised to present an immigration plan during his first year in office. But 4 years later, we are still waiting.” -

the majority is leaving the door open to declaring section 2 preempted and even inviting a case based on the law as it is applied..a real stop-to see whether there's any reason to question it. This is a pretty weak endorsement of the constitutionallity of section 2 -

A little bit on what's about to unfold from Joan Biskupic.
Before they go on the bench, the justices gather first in a robing room where they slip on their ceremonial black robes. This area is adjacent to the justices’ oak-paneled conference room, the most private of places, where they (without clerks or secretaries present) discuss and vote on cases. After the nine are in their black robes, they gather in the conference room and shake hands all around. Retired Justice Sandra Day O’Connor said she especially liked that practice. She said touching hands helped ease tension and prevent grudges.
(These robing and conference rooms are all part of the chambers, or suite, of Chief Justice John Roberts.)
The justices then walk across the hall into a back door of the courtroom. There they wait for the strike of a gavel by Marshal Pam Talkin and her cry, “The Honorable, the Chief Justice and the Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States.”
As they begin taking their seats, Talkin continues, “Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! All persons having business before the Honorable, the Supreme Court of the United States, are admonished to draw near and give their attention, for the Court is now sitting. God save the United States and this Honorable Court!” (punctuation is from official court version, just fyi)
And then the show begins.
Just in case no one has told you yet, people began lining up for the public seats at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), according to PIO Kathy Arberg. -
