A fighter in Sirte has told the BBC his account of the reported capture. Mohammed, a young fighter in his 20s, wearing a blue T-shirt and a New York Yankees baseball cap, said he had found the colonel hiding in a hole in the ground in the city of Sirte. He told the BBC that the former Libyan leader said to him simply: "Don't shoot". -

If the reports are true, and I have no reason to believe it's true or not, it might be a great day for Libyans or not. I lved there from 1963 until 1965 when Idris was king. The tribes then didn't like each other and don't now. I wanted to go back at some time but I didn't want to do so with good memories as a high schooler. I guess if it's true and the country can unite, then it's a good thing. However, I fear that just one more dictator will take over. If true at least it won't be like Idi Amin who's been allowed to live out his life in Saudi Arabia. I have great fear for Libya, a pretty country that has been partially destroyed by the fighting there. -
The UK's Ministry of Defence said it was not known if Col Gaddafi had been in the convoy. "It was targeted on the basis that this was the last of the pro-Gaddafi forces fleeing Sirte," a spokesman said. RAF fighters were not involved in the attack, although RAF reconnaissance aircraft were in the area. -
The good side to this is that he won't turn into a shadow haunting the new system and wasting the nation's resources like what's hapenning in Afghanistan. But that could always happen even without him. Just look at Iraq. In countries where the social system comprises tribes, central governments are not likely to thrive on democratic policies because people are aligned along tribal lines, not national ones. -
