A CNN "innovation" is already irrelevant, in my view. They're mapping tweets related to particular candidates from Iowa and across the nation. Maybe that sounds like a good idea, but if you've spent any time with social media, you know that Ron Paul's presence there is way overrepresented when compared to actual votes, or even opinion polls. That's impressive in its own right, but doesn't mean much for votes, especially in a caucus. -

You know who else doesn't understand why Iowa is important? Jack Shafer. Although "1,500 members of the press corps are there right now...Iowa hardly matters," he writes -

@Volodymyr: Complex question. For both parties, the candidate who wins Iowa has gone on to be his party's nominee about 50% of the time--not a great track record. But certainly it can be argued that Iowa can boost or gravely hurt a candidate's chances down the road, depending on performance. -
