Champions League final: Bayern Munich v Inter Milan
Live blogging the Champions League
- Join us here for commentary and discussion on the Champions League quarter-finals.
- Tonight we have Bayern Munich v Manchester United and Girondins Bordeaux against Olympique Lyon.
- We have reporters inside the stadium at both matches and we'll be providing live, on the spot analysis
- For now, we're hearing that Cesc Fabregas is not training with the Arsenal team today, which may put his appearance in doubt. We'll have details on that as soon as it's confirmed.
- Wenger says that if the match was today then Fabregas would not play.
- Cesc not definitely out but doubtful
- That seems to be the situation. Cesc not fit as of today but Wenger will wait until a fitness test tomorrow before deciding whether to play him against his former club.
- @ReutersSport hope Ribery will finally show us what he can do. He's been pretty disappointing this season compared to Robben.
- Evening all. While we wait, I'm here at the press conference with Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola ahead of tomorrow night's game against Arsenal. I'll let you know if Pep reveals any juicy details about Barca's team or approach for tomorrow...
- And michael, yes ... Ribery could do with showing what he's made of against Untied. It would be a lot better for Bayern if Robben were fit as well but that looks unlikely
- Greetings sports fans, here's my view on the night's action for what i'ts worth...On paper Bayern have a strong side but United really are on top form -- Bayern 0 United 2. Lyon and Bordeaux is a trickier affair and (famous last words), I would expect a closer encounter there as both sides obviously know what they are up against. Going for a draw, 1-1.
- Guardiola just finished his rpess conference ... nothimng of huge importance... He had kind words to say about Arsenal, describing it as an honour to be playing Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. He knows Barcelona will need two good performances to stand a chance of going through.
- Always a gent, but then you would be if you had a squad like his. Give the ball to Messi, sit back, and relax.
- My stomach is rumbling at the thought of the two matches tonight...
- only topic in Munich the past few days is rooney. from cab drivers to cafe owners, the manchester united striker is the topic of almost every conversation in this soccer-mad city
- I take it they like him...
- well, i think bavarians could do without him toinight. if bayern did not have such a shaky defence this season then it would a different matter.
- The recent media comments about him have been spot on. Rooney has improved his game this season to lead the line better. His heading has also been a major highlight and he is now a real and constant threat at the highest levels.
- but with demichelis playing with a face mask after shattering several facial bones in an argentina friendly agains tgermany earlier this month and van buyten clearly not world class, there are many bayern fans who think of lucio with a sense of nostalgia
- Lucio showed his worth against Chelsea by keeping Drogba in his pocket.. a very nifty transfer by Mourinho. His experience could be missed tonight at the Allianz Arena.
- he has been missed all year by bayern
- I remember van Buyten being linked with the Premier League for a good number of seasons... I guess the fact he didn't move tells the story.
- What's your score prediction Karolos?
- Gerland slowly filling up for first all-French Champions League quarter-final . Really feels like Ligue 1
- prediction is 0-1. ribery is in the starting ine-up though but robben is not
- the question how good ribery can play months after he had at least a string of 90-minute matches under his belt. fitness is one matter and match practice another.
- especially given that he will not get any help from robben who is not even on the bench.
- maybe coach van Gaal does not want to risk a longer-term injury that could see Bayern fumble the German title with back-to-back matches against fellow title contender Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen coming up.
- No real surprises in United line-up. Rooney plays alone up front. Park and Nani on either wing. Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes in the middle.
- Gary Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra at the back with van der sar in goal.
- Bayern team looks this...
- 22-Hans-Joerg Butt; 21-Philipp Lahm, 5-Daniel
Van Buyten, 6-Martin Demichelis, 28-Holger Badstuber; 8-Hamit
Altintop, 17-Mark van Bommel, 23-Danijel Pranjic, 7-Franck
Ribery; 25-Thomas Mueller, 11-Ivica Olic. - Bodmer in central defence for Lyon, otherwise no major surprise. 4-2-3-1 for each with Lyon's Lisandro and Bordeaux's Chamakh as lone strikers. Tight, tactical affair likely.
- tough one to predict. tight score in any case, I would say. I'll go for 1-0 for Lyon
- Real shame Robben has not made it for Bayern.. while Evra will be a relieved man, i'm sure it won't be long before we see Ribery skinning Neville down the United right though.
- Just talking with Neil about this, anyone know if Van der Starfish has ever made a blunder in a big match?
- Bayern managed to pummel Juventus without Robben, so let's hope he will not be missed.
- Prediction Lyon - Bordeaux 1:1
- There's only one English team that has ever won in Munich against Bayern
- am big fan of ribery but to be honest he has not done much skinning in the past two years plus he's angered a lot of bayern fans with his constant transfer talk
- So Karolos, is Ribery worth a big money move to Spain then, like many people expect?
- Lots of people predicting a draw in the all-French affair, while our man on the ground Patrick Vignal goes for 1-0 to Lyon.. In the other match, United expected to take a lead back to Old Trafford.. any more predictions out there?
- don't see him staying in Munich. too much money, less taxes and supposedly more successful teams in Spain or England. He has also said that his wife wants to be somewhere warmer. After the past winter here in Germany I don't blame her.
- That rules out England as well, then. Been snowing here in places today!
- Bayern - Man Utd 1:0
