In a shocking development, it is another gray day in #copenhagen. The http://copenhagenflood.org demonstrators are assembling. #cop15by climatebrad via twitter 12/12/2009 9:17:11 AM

About to head out and start following the #COP15 protests. The main march will start in Parliament Square in central Copenhagen and make its way for 6km to the Bella Center, where UNFCC Executive Secretary, Yvo de Boer, and a selection of delegates will meet the protesters. Police expect around 60,000 people will attend. We will be on hand to take video clips, talk to protesters and keep you up-to-date with what is going on. We've already witnessed one thing we haven't seen yet in Copenhagen -- the sun.

Just closing in on the main march. You can hear it a mile away and police are everywhere. It's a freezing cold day in Copenhagen. #COP15by Reuters_RossChainey via twitter 12/12/2009 1:08:23 PM

Parliament Square is packed out and protesters are just beginning their march towards the conference center, which will take 4 hours #COP15by Reuters_RossChainey via twitter 12/12/2009 1:12:00 PM

"Hippies out of the way, rich people coming through." This from a group supporting carbon trading. They are not going down well. #COP15by Reuters_RossChainey via twitter 12/12/2009 1:20:53 PM

First signs of trouble. Protesters started smashing windows just off Parliament Square and threw rockets and bottles at police. #COP15by Reuters_RossChainey via twitter 12/12/2009 1:48:13 PM

Lots of reinforcement police have been forced to strap on their riot gear to deal with a particular group head to toe in black #COP15by Reuters_RossChainey via twitter 12/12/2009 1:49:18 PM

Lots of loud bangs in the distance now and more and more police arrive to deal with what is a minority group of activists. #COP15by Reuters_RossChainey via twitter 12/12/2009 2:02:27 PM

The parts of the demonstration I have seen have so far been largely peaceful, though one group did smash some windows and throw projectiles at Danish police. They also objected to having their picture taken and one tried to grab my camera, until a policeman told him in no uncertain terms that this was not a very nice thing to do.

-
My colleague Mario Di Simine has caught up with the very front of the march. He says they are now halfway to the Bella Center and it is peaceful than earlier. There is lots of singing ("Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen for you"), some dancing, whistles and just plain walking.

The protest has reached the Bella Center and is held up outside. They're early -- we were not expecting them for another hour or so. UNFCCC Executive Secretary, Yvo de Boer, will meet with them later on and this will be followed by a candle-lit vigil outside the center.

Just came back from the demonstration. Calm and happy atmosphere. Demonstrators are kept at a distance from the bella center though. #cop15by stephanielht via twitter 12/12/2009 5:02:06 PM

The protest is still going on right outside the Bella Center. I just ventured out to speak to a couple of the protesters who marched here today from Parliament Square. I asked them why they came here today -- you can see their answers in the video clips above.
