In Gurua, Rajiv Nandan retains the seat for the BJP, defeating Ramchandra Prasad Singh of the Janata Dal (United) by 6,515 votes. The BJP had fielded Nandan instead of the incumbent MLA. -

RJD chief Lalu Yadav often says about himself in Hindi: Jab Tak Rahega Samose Mein Aloo, Tab Tak Rahega Bihar Mein Lalu (as long as there is potato in the samosa, Bihar will always have Lalu). His party leads on 74 seats now. In 2010 election, RJD won 22 seats. In 2014 parliamentary election it managed only 4 out of 40.

Independents have cornered 9.5% of votes VS Congress's 6.7% till now, down from 8.37% in 2010.

Lalu's son Tej Pratap Yadav, who is making his electoral debut this election, is leading by over 20,000 votes from Mahua. His brother Tejaswi, also a first-timer, has a slender lead in Raghopur.

Is this a first? Lalu Yadav says he will build the Bihar that the middle-class women want. Women's vote percentage increased this time to over 60 percent, jumping from a little over 51 percent in the 2010 assembly election.

I think it's about who gets what portfolio in Bihar. For PM Modi, it's another foreign trip. The defeat could dampen the mood as Modi heads to Britain for the first bilateral visit by an Indian leader since 2006. Modi is due to address a sellout crowd next week at London's Wembley stadium.

At least 18 protesters killed in Myanmar in worst violence since coup
Myanmar police fired on protesters around the country on Sunday and at least 18 people were killed in the worst violence since a Feb. 1 military coup, the United Nations said, calling on the international community to act to stop the repression.
